These Cloud Slides Make You Feel Like You’re Walking on Pillows
They’re known for their cozy, platform design, and podiatrists love them, too.
If you’re on the hunt for some ultra-comfortable shoes this summer, direct your attention to cloud slides. Also known as pillow slides or cloud slippers, these of-the-moment platforms have gone viral for their plush feel and slip-on design. Essentially, they offer the breathability and convenience of your favorite flip-flops, but with extra support similar to what you'd find in the most comfortable sneakers.
“For individuals with plantar heel spurs or general heel discomfort, cloud slides can offer relief by absorbing shock and reducing impact on the heel spurs while walking,” says Casey Ann Pidich, New York City–based podiatrist and owner of Dr. Glass Slipper, a foot-wellness website for women. “The cushioning in the sole provides a feeling of walking on clouds, making them extremely comfortable for extended periods of wear, such as walking around town, running errands, or even after a workout.”
Not to mention, many of the best cloud slides are made with waterproof EVA material, making them perfect for days spent by the beach or pool.
Popular labels like Hoka, Crocs, R0Am, and Oofos all offer cute cloud slides so you can walk in ultimate comfort. Scroll on to shop the nine best cloud slides that are approved by podiatrists for recovery and everyday wear.
Are cloud slides good for your feet?
Cloud slides are better for your feet than standard flip-flops or even classic slides, which tend to “lack a soft, cushioned sole,” says Pidich.
Maryland-based podiatrist Priya Parthasarathy says cloud slides are helpful for those who have fat pad atrophy (the loss of fat on the heel and foot) or want extra cushioning as they walk. However, the experts don't recommend wearing these shoes out and about all day, as they have less structure and support than shoes with backings. Instead, they suggest wearing cloud slides around the house, for running errands, or for post-workout recovery.
And while all cloud slides tend to offer some level of traction, note that some may be more slip-resistant than others. “Most cloud slides are designed with rubber or rubber-like outsoles, which offer good grip on most surfaces,” Pidich explains. “However, some cloud slides are designed with textured patterns or grooves on the sole to improve traction and prevent slipping. It's essential to check the product details or reviews to see if a particular brand of cloud slides is known for its non-slip features,” she adds.
